Hargray Communications Expands Services with RGB Networks Products
Southern Telco Delivers Service to Residential and Business Customers with RGB
Sunnyvale, California – November 11, 2009 – RGB Networks, the leader in network video processing, announced today that Hargray Communications Group, a telecommunications provider serving South Carolina and Georgia, has deployed RGB’s award-winning video processing solutions for several applications, including providing their residential subscribers with more high definition (HD) programming and delivering video services to the guests of a major hotel.
HDTV is an increasingly popular service with Hargray subscribers, and a service that the company is keen to expand in order to stay ahead of competitors. Eager to deliver more bandwidth-hungry HD, but without a costly upgrade to the hybrid fiber/coax (HFC) network it uses for its video subscribers, Hargray quickly identified RGB’s Broadcast Network Processor (BNP) as the ideal solution. The BNP’s proven transrating capability enables Hargray to deliver up to 50 percent more HD programming using the same amount of bandwidth and without sacrificing picture quality.
Complementing its residential services, Hargray also provides broadband voice, data and video services to its many commercial customers. To enable a major hotel customer to provide its 1,200 guest rooms with a wide selection of broadcast and premium programming without the need for set-top boxes, Hargray again chose RGB products. The company is using another BNP in conjunction with RGB’s Universal Scalable Modulator (USM), the industry’s highest-density edge QAM modulator. In this application the BNP grooms a custom channel line-up specifically for the hotel which is then modulated by the USM for delivery over Hargray’s HFC network and reception by the guests’ QAM tuner-equipped TVs, eliminating the need for costly set-top boxes.
“Hargray’s success with the BNP and the USM is the latest example of how our video solutions allow service providers to seamlessly deliver more HDTV and other revenue-generating services without sacrificing quality,” said Lou Mastrocola, Vice President, Americas Sales for RGB Networks. “RGB’s solutions enable customers like Hargray to dramatically expand their services without spending precious funds on costly network upgrades, resulting in satisfied subscribers and an increased bottom line.”
Advanced Media Technologies (AMT), a major reseller of RGB’s products, also played a significant role in this deployment with Hargray.
